There is proven research demonstrating that cinnamon can lower blood glucose levels. Bitter Melon and Gymnema are other herbs with this effect. Red Yeast Rice has been shown to have cholesterol reducing effects similar to the statin drugs without the side effects. Thanks for you contribution to Take Charge of Your Health Care Carnival.

This is an excellent list - Thanks for compiling it. It would be nice to expand the list and group them by what symptoms they relieve. That way you could simply refer to the list and look for the treatment for XYZ ailment. Thanks again; I'll definately refer back here from time to time.

A couple of points: Lobelia is poisonous in excess, and ginger is better known as a sovereign remedy for nausea.

And as alex notes, fennel is not the same as anise, let alone star anise. (If you try chewing star anise, you'll just break teeth on the seeds!) If you have access to an Indian grocery, that's a good place to get fennel seed in bulk, optionally candied.

You should be aware of potential side affects for some of these herbs however. For instance, cinnamon can cause nervousness and anxiety attacks.

Interesting list.

Fennel seeds, however, are nothing like Star Anise. I can dig on eating a half teaspoon of Fennel seeds, but a half teaspoon of Star Anise, not.
