Host Question:l What are some personality traits that make for a great certified nursing assistant?

Guest Answer: You have to be just genuinely a good person.

If you don’t like people, then you’re just not going to treat them the way that they should be treated.

Because at the end of the day, they’re still a human. You still have to treat them with respect and be polite. You also have to really pay attention to detail. To notice if the sore is happening or notice like, hey, their stomach’s not working, or just being able to notice things, or someone who can be a friend, but also advocate for patients. Like, they won’t say something that needs to be said to a loved one or two a nurse because they’re afraid, so you need to be there and be like, hey, this is what’s wrong, this needs to be addressed.

Guest Answer: I think it’s pretty essential for CNA’s to be patient, to be flexible, to be calm, be able to project calm outwardly even if you’re feeling frantic inside.

And also to be honest, I think those are really essential. It also helps to have good observational skills, good time management skills, good communication skills, for sure.

Guest Answer: One, you have to be patient, very caring, like understanding.

Compassion is probably a big one. Just being able to take care of that person regardless of what it the good, the bad, you know.
